Possible new families of unconventional high temperature superconductors
In the past, both curates and iron-based superconductors were discovered accidentally. Lacking of successful predictions on new high Tc materials is one of major obstacles to reach a consensus on the high Tc mechanism. In this talk, we discuss the key electronic properties that separate these two materials from other correlated electron systems. The electronic properties explain why unconventional high Tc superconductors are rare. We show that these properties can serve us to design or identify potential new families of high temperature superconductors. Two new families of Co or Ni-based materials are explicitly discussed. Verifying the prediction can convincingly establish the high Tc superconducting mechanism and pave a way to design new high Tc superconductors.
